A Former Student of the Christian Medical College Vellore [ C.M.C ] , Senior Medical Officer at C.B.H and Winner of the prestigious Order of the Founder Ms.Dr. S. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam , B.Sc [Chemistry], M.B.B.S,.

Introduction   ;   A Former Student of the prestigious Christian Medical College Vellore and Senior Medical Officer at the famous C.B.H and Winner of the prestigious recognition and Award ,  "Order of the Founder"  Ms. Dr. S. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam, B.Sc, M.B.B.S, [ generally she is called as Dr. Ruby Samuel ] is an unsung Achiever, a dedicated medical Doctor, an unassuming woman and a God fearing lady .  Her real life story , her  service to the cause of the ailing people and medical service and her amiable traits will definitely galvanise the readers of this Article and the younger generation to lead a meaningful and hopeful life

                                             Ms. Dr. S. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam, B.Sc, M.B.B.S,.

Dr. Ruby's Parents and her Birth    :  Some decades ago there lived two God fearing souls in Kanyakumari District namely Mr. Y. Samuel and  Ms. M. Hepsibah Pushpam and both of them were working as officers in the Salvation Army and Mr Y.Samuel and  Ms. M Hepsibah Pushpam couple gave birth to  Dr. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam on the 14th April 1941 at Nagercoil . Mr. Y. Samuel was a son of Mr Abel Yesunesan of Ikkyapuram and Ms Packiam of Navalkad and Ms M. Hepsibah Pushpam of Osaravillai and Ms Hepsibah Pushpam  was a daughter of Dr. Packianathan Theresar of Osaravillai village. Ms Hepsibah Pushpam's maternal grandmother migrated to India from Burma during the first world War.

Dr. Ruby's Sibling and Family   : Mr. Y. Samuel and Ms M. Hepsibah Pushpam couple gave birth to the following children namely : [1] Dr. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam [ The Heroine of this Article ] and [2] Ms Ivy Grace Packiam and she is a Staff Nurse and she has married Mr A. Dharma Raj Philip [Ex Indian Army ] and this couple gave birth to the following children namely :[1]  Mr. Victor Sam Philip [Working in Abu Dhabi ], [2] Ms. Christina Philip, M.Sc [ Nursing ] and she  is working in Canada and [3] Mr Arul Santhosh Philip, M.Sc [ Perfusion] and he  is working  in U.K.

Dr. Ruby Metilda Jesunessam's educational Track   :  Ms. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam did her Elementary education up-to 3rd class at the S.A. Primary School in  Nagercoil and she did her 4th and 5th classes at the Gundukadu LMS Primary School located near Museum in Trivandrum. and then she did her 1st Form , 2nd Form , 3rd Form 4th Form and 5th Form at the Thuckalay Govt High School . Ms Ruby Metilda Jesunesam did her S.S.L.C class in two Schools namely the Government  High School at Kanyakumari and S.M.R.V High School Nagercoil and passed her S.S.L.C in the year 1956. . Then after having passed her S.S.L.C, Ms Ruby Metilda Jesunesam did her P.U.C at the famous Maharaja College for Women in Trivandrum and passed her P.U.C meritoriously. After having passed her P.U.C, she pursued her B.Sc [ Chemistry] at the prestigious Scott Christian College Nagercoil and passed her B.Sc {chemistry] in the year 1960.. After having passed her B.Sc[ Chemistry] she got the privilege to work in  the Physiotherapy Department in C.B.H in Nagercoil for nearly 2 years. .Ms Ruby Metilda Jesunesam was commissioned as an officer in the Salvation Army and finished her officer's training  successfully in 1963 [ From August 1962 to may 1963 ].. Ms Ruby Metilda Jesunesam joined at the prestigious Christian Medical College Vellore  as a first year  M.B.B.S student in August 1964 and  Ms Ruby Metilda Jesunesam passed her M.B.B.S  course in the academic year 1971-72 and completed her House Surgeon  training  in C.M.C in 1972.

Dr Ruby Metilda Jesunesam's  Professional Track   : After having passed her M.B.B.S, Dr. Ruby Metilda Jesunesam joined the famous Catherine Booth Hospital in Nagercoil as a Medical Officer in the year 1973. and worked till 1980 in the same Hospital . Then she was transferred to the S.A. Nidubrolu Hospital in Andra Pradesh in 1980 and in this new Hospital she worked with great dedication till 1982. In 1982 Dr Ruby Metilda  Jesunesan was transferred to the S.A Leprosy Hospital Varikoli  at .Puthenkrutz in Cochin.and worked in this Hospital with devotion and showed great compassion for the patients.. .In 1983 Dr. Ruby Metilda Jesunesan  was transferred to the Kazhathumell S.A Hospital at Kattakadai.and  she worked in this Hospital till 1991 with much enthusiasm and dedication and in 1991 Dr. Ruby Samuel  joined at the Catherine Booth Hospital Nagercoil  as a Medical Officer and subsequently she was promoted as a Senior Medical Officer and she worked with great devotion till her retirement in May 1998.  After her retirement from C.B.H she worked in the James Hospital, Colachel  as a medical Officer  for about 7 years [2000- -2007 ]. Then Dr Ruby worked as a Medical Officer at the Trust Hospital in Nagercoil under Dr. Vimala with great commitment for near 2 years. Now she lives her retirement life in her own peaceful style in her own house at Victory Lane, near Vettoornimadam  in Nagercoil with content, peace and joy. ..

Conclusion     :  Dr Ruby Metilda Jesunesam, B.Sc, M.B.B.S,  is a remarkable lady and a devoted Medical worker .  She is unassuming and very compassionate  towards the needy and ailing  people.  Many of her classmates and college-mates in C.M.C are doing very well in life and had decorated high places in Medical field for example, Ms..Dr. Joyce Ponnaiya [ A Former Director of C.M.C ,Vellore, and President of the Christian Medical Association of India ] was Dr. Ruby's M.B.B.S classmate . Dr. Ruby Samuel  is very simple, easily accessible and she never expected any recognition for her services but recognition and appreciation had come to her unexpectedly. The famous James Hospital at Colachel had aptly recognised and honoured Dr. Ruby Samuel , M.B.B.S with an appreciation Award on the occasion of the Celebration of the World Women's Day Celebrations on 8-3- 2002, in recognition of her  Distinguished Service Rendered to Society and this Appreciation  Award was presented to her by Dr, Mrs, Jaideep Mahendra , M.D.S, w/o Mr Gagan Deep Singh Bedi , I.A.S, the then honourable  Collector, Kanyakumari District. Very recently another significant feather was added to her cap .  The international Head of the Salvation Army General Brian Peddle bestowed upon Maj Dr. Ruby Samuel , " The Order of the Founder ' [The highest International Salvation Army Award ]on the 16th day of January in the year of our Lord, Two Thousand and Twenty Three and directed that her name  be inscribed on the Roll of the Order. This honour was bestowed upon Dr. Ruby Samuel as a recognition for  her dedicated Service in honour of high quality of work in Medical and Social Services . Indeed it is an excellent  international recognition for Dr. Ruby Samuel  Dr Ruby will live in the hearts of people for her humility, pleasant smile, compassion,  honesty. and God fearing life. I will end this Article with the following sentence , :" Dr. Ruby Samuel , you are really a tall lady, I am proud of you and thank God for you "     .

  1. I am proud to be Rubyakka’s classmate and the beneficiary of her advice and council , over the many years I was with her in CMC. Always loving , nonjudgmental, helpful and kind . She deserves this award more than anyone I know . I thank God for bringing her into my life. I know I speak for my classmates too ,when I say I am proud of her many accomplishments.
