Introduction : Former District Forest Officer Mr. C. Thangiah , B.Sc was an illustrious son of kanyakumari District and he was a colorful personality; he reached heights by his hard work and self motivation . He was one of the unsung heroes of our district , he was blessed with natural leadership qualities and he was a great Athlete and was very intelligent. . There were no big uncles in his family to motivate him or to help him, yet he set his own goals and reached his goals by his natural intelligence and by his relentless hard work A perusal of his fertile profile will inspire many and instil the minds of the readers with self confidence, new goals and vision

Mr. Thangiah's Parents and Birth and sibling : Many decades ago there lived a blessed couple by name Mr Chokkalingam and Ms.Vadivammal Chokkalingam in a beautiful village called Sadayankulam near Nagercoil in Nanjil Nadu, Kanyakuamari District and to this couple Mr Thangiah was born on the 12th July , 1922. as their eldest son . Mr C Thangiah's one sibling his younger brother Mr C. Poomani served as a school Teacher [ Mrs Arunthathi Chandran's father]
His Education : Young Thangiah did his primary school studies at the Primary School at Leepuram, located near Kanyakumari and did his Middle School education at a Middle School at Kanyakuamari. He did his High School studies at the famous S.M.R.V High School at Vadasery, Nagercoil and passed his SSLC examination meritoriously . Mr Thangaiah pursued his Intermediate studies at the Maharaja's College, Trivandrum and passed his FA examination in 1942 and then he did his B.Sc at the famous Trivandrum University College and while he was studying in the University College, the following students like Mr Ponnappa Nadar [who later became a famous Congress Leader and Opposition Party Leader in the Tamilnadu Assembly], Mr Chidambaranathan [Who later became a Minister in the Travancore Cochin State Government ] and late justice Rameswaralingam were his friends and college mates Mr C. Thangiah passed his B.Sc final Examination in 1944.
His Marriage and Children : Mr C. Thangiah married Ms Sarojini , daughter of late Sri D. Arumainayagam, B.A. L.T and Ms Nallamuthu Arumainayagam couple, on the 19th May 1950 . Mr C. Thangiah and Ms Sarojini Thangiah couple gave birth to the following children namely :- [1]
Ms Vanaja , B.Sc. B.Ed and she was married to Mr Thangadurai, I.A.S ,[2] Ms Nirmala, B.Sc and she was married to Mr. A.S. Sundar, B.Sc. B.L[ He worked as a manager, State Bank of India],[3] Ms Lalitha, M.Sc, and she was married to Mr. A. Balachandran, M.A ,[ he worked as manager at the Salem Steel Plant].'[4] Mr T. Sounderarajan [died] , [5] Mr.T. Devasudhakar,. and [6] Mr .T. Jeyakumar Arumairaj
Mr. C Thangiah's Professional Career : After his successful completion of his B.Sc degree course he wrote the Madras State Public Service Commission examination and successfully cleared the same and was selected for the the post of Forest Ranger in October 1945 . So he joined the Forest College at Coimbatore and successfully completed his two year degree studies . While he was a student at the Forest College at Coimbatore, he served as the Secretary of the Students Association of the Forest College In 1948 Mr C. Thangiah started his career in the Forest Department {Madras Government] as a Forest Range Officer and after that there was no turning back. In 1959 he was sent to Ooty for advanced Training and successfully completed the Training . He was discharging his duties with great efficacy and dedication and so he was getting promotions one after another. In 1962 he was promoted as District Forest Officer. and in 1963 he was sent to Dehradun for further advanced studies and Training and he completed this Study cum Training with flying colors. With great grit and responsibility he had been discharging his official duties throughout his official career till his retirement.
Conclusion ". Mr Thangiah, B.Sc, served the Tamil Nadu Forest Department with great grit and integrity. He was fearless and audacious and had arrested many who violated the Indian Forest Policies and Forest laws of Tamil Nadu and took strong actions for the punishment of the culprits .. News Papers wrote about his audacious and upright actions; it will be appropriate to cite one event here ; while serving in the Sathiamangalam Forest area Mr C,. Thangiah with audacity arrested all the persons who robbed the woods in the Government forest land and for this audacious action the then English High level Forest Officer Mr H..R.M. Law appreciated him and honored him with Cash Award.. He served in many districts as District Forest Officer with distinction and won the appreciation of his colleagues, superior officers and the public . He had a compassionate heart and inclination towards the poor and he helped many poor students with monetary help for their higher studies. While he was serving as District Forest Officer[ D F O ] in Chengottai in 1970, he started a Cane Society for the cause of the poor people Now he is no more with us but his real life story teaches the importance of education , hard work, audacity and honesty, to the poor youth of this Nation. He was a competitive and competent Long Distance Runner and he ran his life's race with great vision and velocity and completed his life's race successfully
