An Outstanding and Innovative Anesthesiologist, Winner of theTamil Nadu Govt State Award For the Best Employee- Locomotor Disability[ 2011], A Former Assistant Professor at the Madras Medical College, Chennai, A Relentless Fighter Against The Challenges of Life, and Former District Medical Superintendent Shri Dr. D. Manoharan , M.B.B.S, D.A, M.D,. Part Final .

Dr. D. Manoharan's Post Graduate Medical Education : In tune with his thirst for more knowledge , Dr D. Manoharan pursued his DA course at the famous Madurai Medical College  and passed his DA examination meritoriously in 1984.  He pursued his MD [ Anesthesia and Critical Care] at the famous Stanley Medical College,Chennai.[ Dr. MGR. Medical University ] and meritoriously passed his MD in 1991..Dr. D. Manoharan in line with his unquenchable quest and thirst for Medical Knowledge has successful completed a course offered by the American school for Continuing Medical Education  titled," Managing Hyper Tension: In Clinical Practice According to Risk Profile"

A Great Calamity Happened to Dr. D. Manoharan:  While  Dr. D. Manoharn was working at the Tuticorin  Govt HQ. Hospital, one day on invitation  he was dinning in one of his friends' house , unfortunately a dog bit  him  while he was eating and in spite of taking necessary injections, on 27th Sept 1991 he developed Post ARV Immune Reaction. So he was referred to Tirunelveli Govt Medical College. Due to improper diagnosis and treatment in the Tirunelveli Medial College  by the concerned doctors Dr. Manoharan developed  coma and the doctors discharged him against medical justice...  Dr. D. Manoharan was admitted at the Meenakshi Mission hospital for treatment and there the doctors of the hospital started steroids. Slowly he recovered his consciousness but there was total paralysis at C5 level [Spinal Cord ]. So he was taken to CMC Vellore for Physiotherapy treatment .   He was treated for a period of one and half years in the Rehabilitation Center  of CMC at Bagayam , Vellore; but recovery was very slow. In 1992, Madras Medical Board advised Dr. D. Manoharan to change his profession .  But Dr. D. Manoharan  with consistent  and indomitable will  power started fighting his disability . There were times when his wife Mrs.Nirmala Manoharan, had to lift and carry him  to move to different places.  His body started to show gradual improvement and recovered some strength and stamina  to walk with callipers and crutches.  And deservedly  he got his posting again in Tuticorin Govt Hospital

His Promotion  as  District Medical Superintendent and Retirement.  He was transferred to many places in Tamil Nadu  and in all the places he served the sick people with great devotion and love and earned their love and respect He was promoted and posted as the Superintendent of Kanyakumari District Head Quarters Hospital , Padmanabapuram  and till his retirement he discharged his official duty with great devotion, dignity and service mindedness,.  He retired from the Tamil Nadu Government  Medical Service as a Group A  Officer on 28th February 2011.

Demise of his beloved daughter Dr. Ramya, BDS and Ramya Clinic at Manaparai; His life was filled with consistent challenges and calamities . His beloved daughter Ramya's death on 3rd March 2011, tremored and shook his soul, body  and mind. This was his second great tragedy in his life . He thought service to the needy and sick people  at low charges ,will help him to come out of frozen melancholy caused on account of his daughter's untimely death , so he opened a clinic at Manapari in the name of his deceased daughter Ramya., : Ramya Clinic". Without any turning back, he has been serving the people who live around Manaparai . He has saved countless lives till date from critical conditions right from poisonous Snake bites, Poison intake, Suicide attempt and Paediatric emergency at a very low fee and free service for the extremely poor.
Dr. D. Manoharan Received State Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu: In recognition of his life long service to the cause of the sick people , in spite of his personal disability; the State Award For  Best Employee- Locomotor Disability was presented to Dr. D. Manoharan by Ex Minister for Social welfare  Selvi. Ramajayam, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu  in December, 2011, at a grand special function held at  the Vevekananda hall, Anna University Chennai in the presence of some high profile dignitaries.

Conclusion : Dr. D. Manoharan decorated all the posts  held by him during the period of his Government service  He had the privilege to serve as Assistant Professor at the prestigious Madras Medical College for a short period of six months .Dr. D Manoharan has been serving the poor sick people with great compassion  love and devotion in spite of his physical disability; his compassion  for sick and needy is so great . . He has donated blood a few times  and his kind gesture of donating blood to Patient Mrs.Petchiammal  to save her life, from critical condition has been duly recognized by the then District Medical Officer, Madurai at Periakulam in 1990.. Every morning Ramya Clinic is thronged by poor sick people , and by people affected by snake and scorpion bites . Dr. D. Manoharan willingly  and sympathetically  treat the affected sick people and charge very low fee from them . The relieved patients when they go back, look at Dr. D. Manoharan with a grateful smile and  in the smile of those poor and sick people Dr. D. Manoharan find the smile of the his deceased daughter Ramya.  During his student days he was a good sportsman and this athletic spirit has helped him a lot to meet the challenges of life in a manly manner.The country  need more  service minded doctors like Dr. D. Manoharan.
