  14. Passing on of Dr Anand Chellappa is a great loss indeed. His songs, compositions and achievements
in the filed of music will live on! I would like to add that in 1969(probably in December) the Chellappas were our neighbours and close family friends in Livingstone, Zambia. I was fourteen years old then and it was a pleasure to enjoy their company because there would fun, laughter and singing most of the time. My mom was encouraged and groomed by DR. Anand's mother to start teaching in silverrest school. I recall Anand Anna being a fair, tall, handsome lanky man always playing on his accordian. He joined Lusaka hospital to practice and he was a hit among all the medical people. I used to love the song ' kaarirul velaiyil' and so he recorded it for me on my first tape recorder. Anand Anna, Mithran Anna, Chithran Anna and Puni akka were fond of my father, Edwin Asirvadam who was in the Zambian airforce and my mother, Vimala. Miss those good old days but the memories will be ever fresh!

  21. It was very sad news to hear of my cousin Brother Anand Annan . It brought memories of my childhood -visiting my cousins in Madurai and having such a wonderful time -spending precious moments with all my cousins -Sathy Akka ,Annand Annan , Chithran , Mithran Annans and Puni.
Happy Christmas holidays and Nativity plays with Schafter Thatha , Sonnu Periamma and Ebi Periappa. Later on I was Anand Annan’s junior at CMC VELLORE. I was blessed to have been there when the first Tamil-carol was composed by him and to be in the first bunch to be taught by Annan to sing his songs. This continued to his very last carol. Every year people looked forward to the grand finale with Tamil carol songs and the large orchestra with Annan conducting them and us to sing. How joyfully we all sang for the glory of God which continued from first to final year. We sang these songs over and over again with joy and gusto and throughout the years following, even when we’d long left CMC .
Anand Annan , my husband Dr Edward Sukumar and I all caught up with each other later on in life when Annan would often call us from the US to the UK and we would all reminisce fondly of all the times we shared. We were so happy to recollect all the wonderful memories and exchange our stories of our different paths in life. He was a talented, brilliant multifaceted individual , as humble as he was distinguished and honoured. It was wonderful to hold fast to familial bonds in our later years and our reunions were comforting and cherished. We grew so much closer in his last few years. We talked so much about the Lord Jesus, and the most important thing in this life to know Him as our personal Lord and Saviour. Because of this, my husband and I, although saddened at his sudden passing, are full of hope that this is not the end and that we will meet again in the presence of our precious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in heaven who gave our dear Annan such a beautiful talent to compose and sing for His glory. We miss Annan’s beautiful voice and singing and fellowship. We pray for his dear family, and children especially Sangeeth and Pavan & wish the Lord’s comfort and strength during this difficult time upon them, our dear Annan’s family. With love Shamala and Sukumar

    1. A few additional thoughts -Anand Annan was a US Naval officer, an excellent paediatric doctor and of course imbued with musical finesse. His unassuming nature and humility
attest to the kind of man he was. After emigrating to the USA he completed his General Pediatrics residency and obtained the American Board of Paediatrics Certification . He became a general pediatrician, later Head of the Pediatrics Dept in the US Navy, and then Director of Medical Services at the Charleston Naval Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina. During his U.S. Navy service, he received two meritorious service medals and further, a fellowship in neonatology and perinatal medicine. Dr Edward Sukumar & Shamala
