Mr. Selvaraj and St John's College , Palayamcottah : After his S.S.L.C , Mr Selvaraj wanted to do his P.U.C at the St John's College Palayamcottah and the Principal of St John's college Mr Vethasironmony, on seeing Mr. Selvaraj's marks happily admitted him to the P.U.C in the year 1963. After having meritoriously passed his P.U.C, Mr Selvaraj pursued his B.Sc [ Botany ] in the same College. Throughout his undergraduate studies Mr Selvaraj was scoring very high marks and won the hearts of the Principal Mr Vethasironmony, teachers and the fellow students by his exemplary study record and friendly behaviour. As he hailed from a poor family he was repeatedly failing to pay his tuition fees in time, during such situations Mr Vethasironmony helped Selvarj to pay the college fees and continue his studies .Soon after Mr Selvaraj passed his B.Sc his Professor Mr Thompson [ Nagercoil ] and the Principal Mr Vethasironmony appointed Mr.Selvaraj as a Botany Demonstrator in St John's College. He worked efficaciously as a Demonstrator for two years and saved Rs 3000= for his higher studies.

He did his M.Sc at the MCC. Thambaram, Chennai : Mr Selvaraj got his admission at the prestigious Madras Christian College, Chennai for his M.Sc[ Botany ] in the year 1969. In the year 1971 Mr Selvaraj meritoriously passed his M.Sc [ Botany] and he was appointed as a Botany Lecturer at the Madras Christian College by the Principal Dr Chandra Devanesan.
His Higher Studies : While working as a Lecturer at the Botany Department, M.C.C Mr Selvaraj got the opportunity to pursue his M,Phil degree at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany, Madras University. After his M.Phil Dr. Selavaraj passed his PhD degree in 1984
Dr. K. Selvaraj and his Wife and her Family : Dr. Selvaraj married Ms.Banumathi, M.A, M.Ed in the year 1975{ she worked as a teacher at the Civil Aviation Middle School, Meenambakam, Chennai.] and she is a native of Manappadu. and she belongs to the family of Dr Baliah, M.B.B.S, M.D and Mr Manoharan, B.E, I.R.S,E [Former Indian Railway Board Member --2016] . It would be really useful to the micro historians and the readers to have some important information about Ms Banumathi Selvaraj's family background. Ms Banumathi's father's sister was married to Mr Subiah Thasildar of Kulasekarapattinam and Mr Subiah Thasildar and Mrs Subbiah couple gave birth to Mr.Dr. S. Baliah , M.B.B.S, M.D and Mr. S. Manoharan, B.E, I.R.S.E.
Dr. K Selvaraj 's Children : Dr; K Selvaraj and Ms Banumathi Selvaraj couple gave birth to the following children namely :- [1] Ms Abeena Shathani, M.Sc M.Phil and she works as a Teacher in a college.and [2] Mr. Allen Selvaraj, M.Sc, M.Phil-I.T and he is working in USA
Conclusion : Dr. Selvaraj started his professional career as a Botany Lecturer at the famous Madras Christian College in the year 1971 and he retired as a Professor of Botany in the year 2004. As an efficacious Teacher he won the love and respect of his students and colleagues. He had successfully guided one PhD student and 32 M.Phil students. Actually he was an inspiring model and force to many students and staff members . He is a multifaceted personality. . He is a born Artist blessed with inherent creative spark . He started to develop his artistic talent since his school days .He has exhibited his Paintings in the premises of the Madras Christian College many a time and won the appreciations of the viewers and Art lovers. . Nearly 35 of his Oil Paintings are adorning the walls of the Botany Department, M.C.C, Thambaram, Chennai. and the walls of Student Hostels , in M.C.C , Chennai,. On his retirement from the Madras Christian College he was invited to teach in the Lakshmiraman Matriculation School at Palayamcottah [ IIPE ], While staying at the premises of I.I.P.E school he had the privilege to conduct coaching classes for the students of Hilton Matriculation School, Tirunelveli and Bharath Matriculation School at Courtalam for their Medical Entrance Examination [ MBBS ] .Apart from these above mentioned schools he also taught the students of many other schools in Palayamcottah for their Medical Entrance Examination . In Palayamcottah area Dr. Selvaraj stayed for nearly four years and was conducting coaching classes for the aspiring students for their medical entrance examinations. Now he lives in Tambaram with his family and currently he is a blessed grandfather . His praiseworthy travel from the sandy street of Karikoil into the prestigious educational campus of Madras Christian College deserves great appreciation. Dr Selavaraj's real life story will definitely inspire many rural poor youth to Dream High and reach high places in life like him. We are proud of Dr K. Selvaraj, M.Sc, Ph.D.
